Scythe is an artistically stunning board game set in an alternate-history 1920s Diesel Punk Europe. Scythe summed up: Players take on the roles of different factions from around Europe and try to score points by fulfilling objectives, control areas and territories, upgrade their boards and mechs, and increase their ‘power’ and popularity’. There are a large variety of different game triggers to which earn a player ‘Stars’. Once any player gains their 6th Star the game immediately ends and points are worked out. The player with the highest points wins. How does it play? The game combines elements of resource management, area control, and engine-building, providing a rewarding and complex strategy experience. As you play you’ll aim to achieve various objectives, from expanding their territories to upgrading their unique abilities and mechs. With its striking artwork, intricate gameplay, and multiple paths to victory, Scythe offers an immersive and highly rewarding gaming experience for those who enjoy strategic depth and thematic immersion. Why is it fun? One important notable aspect of Scythe is its asymmetric gameplay, where each faction has its own abilities and starting conditions, adding a lot of variety and re-playability to each game session. The game’s components, from the detailed miniatures to the beautifully designed board, contribute to its immersive and captivating atmosphere. Scythe really has earned well deserved praise for its depth, elegance, and the tension it creates as players strive to outmaneuver each other in this captivating world of mechs and intrigue. It’s little wonder that it’s rightly got it’s spot on our BGW Team Favourites list and won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

A game i'd never sell or trade. Great game. Those new to gaming find it a refreshing exciting step into the world of modern board games, whilst hardcore gamers are usually up for a game as a light games night. It can become a bit samey after a fair few games as a hardcore gamer so you'll need some expansions thereafter to reignite the interest
