Widely praised kickstarter, Nemesis, is a thrilling and immersive board game that plunges players into the heart of a dark and suspenseful sci-fi horror story. In this game, you and your fellow players assume the roles of crew members aboard a spaceship traveling through space. However, there’s a twist – some of the crew members may or may not be hiding deadly secrets, and the ship itself is infested with mysterious and dangerous alien organisms. Can you fulfil your objectives and survive? What makes Nemesis unique? The core of Nemesis lies in its narrative-driven gameplay, where players must work together to survive while trying to accomplish their secret objectives. These objectives can range from innocent tasks to backstabbing schemes, adding a layer of tension and distrust among the players. The game’s clever mechanics keep everyone guessing, as players must decide whether to cooperate or betray one another, all while dealing with the ever-present threat of the alien intruders. What is very unique with Nemesis is that while many games almost… tag on a semi-coop mode, Nemesis was specifically designed around it! So you’ll find it works incredibly well. What makes this game great? One of the standout features of Nemesis is its incredible attention to detail in both game design and components. The beautifully crafted miniatures, highly atmospheric artwork, and modular game board create a truly immersive and cinematic experience. It’s definitely one of those games that you’ll leave there with memories of that story that you all wrote together. (“Hey remember that time when we had all died and you where the last one alive going up against the queen in a wheelchair with nothing but a Molotov cocktail?”) … Yeah, expect crazy stories like that. What makes this game fun? Don’t be fooled though, Nemesis is a HARD game… not necessarily rule-wise, but more in terms of beating the game. If you’ve ever played games like Shadows Over Camelot, or Pandemic, you may be familiar with how a game can be co-op, fun, and thematically story driven but you all know that there’s a good chance that you might not win the game; but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t great fun to play! Nemesis is a game that excels when it comes to creating memorable and suspenseful stories. It’s perfect for players who enjoy strategy, thematic immersion, and the thrill of not knowing who they can trust in a game of high-stakes survival. Whether you’re working together to escape the clutches of the deadly aliens or plotting your own corporate agenda, Nemesis offers a gaming experience that’s both intense and unforgettable. For players who don’t like player elimination or the risk of semi-coop but still want to give it a try, the designer has carefully made game modes that you can play with that allow players to be revived, take over the role of the aliens when they die, or remove the possibility of traitors entirely, all of which are included in the base game.
Do not play this with the mindset or intention to “win”, “score high”, etc. Play this game with a group who are ready for an interactive thematic game that’s going to have some mad unavoidable things happen and that’s ok. Never won, always had the group die or lose, but we’ve all had a great time. Only time I saw someone not enjoy it was when they tried to “figure it out” like a euro game and try to play to win… that just doesn’t work with Nemesis. If you’ve Got the right group and are up for being passengers of an interactive survival game, then you’ll love it.
